Ambient music producer Alaskan Tapes releases much anticipated LP

Well established ambient producer Alaskan Tapes has finally released his full LP, Views From Sixteen Stories via AT Recordings after much anticipation. Ahead of the LP, the producer released ‘The Times Are Tired’, ‘And, We Disappear’ as well as the title track, ‘Views From Sixteen Stories’. You can read our previous piece on Alaskan Tapes here.

The origin of the alias “Alaskan Tapes” is an interesting one, as Brady Kendall has explained before. Previously producing music under a different moniker (O S L O), he began to create an EP named Alaskan Tapes, based on a short story that he conjured up in his mind. However, gradually the EP title changed to alias before Kendall moved on completely from the concept of the EP. You can read the full interview with him via Contemplative Classical here.

Our personal favourite of the tracks is the poetically named ‘Before Sinking’ which brings the album to a close. There is a simplicity displayed with the strumming of an acoustic guitar that carries the track and provides an introspective ending to the emotive LP.

Views From Sixteen Stories was originally thought of from a place of very little inspiration. After finishing two other projects pretty much back to back I was left with minimal ideas, so I simply started listening to music again. I was listening to post-rock very heavily, which made me want to make something in the same vein, but still have all the benefits of an ambient album (long tracks, minimal composition, etc.) This is the product of that mindset, a collection of minimal compositions, drawn-out patterns, and drones wherever they will fit.” Kendall shares the musical journey that brought him to create Views From Sixteen Stories.
